KUALA LUMPUR: Fully vaccinated single individuals who wish to travel and meet their parents should wait a little bit longer when the Covid-19 situation has improved, says Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (pic).

       The Senior Minister said there are some risks if the government allows singles who are fully vaccinated to cross states to meet their parents.

       He added at the moment, the government only allows parents to cross district or state borders to meet their children who are below 18 years old.

       "Insya-Allah (God-willing), if the decision is successfully implemented and the numbers of Covid-19 cases do not spike due to this, there is no reason in the future for us not to expand the decision to include all singles who are asking about this matter," he said during a virtual press conference Monday (Aug 9).

       On Sunday (Aug 8), the government announced several privileges for the fully vaccinated individuals including to allow parents to cross district and state borders to meet their children below the age of 18.

       "If we allow now (singles who are fully vaccinated) to travel, the numbers are too high, and the risk that we will burden will also be high," said Hishammuddin.

       He said if the public do not observe all the standard operating procedures (SOP) or are not disciplined, it will create further problems.

       "So far, let’s allow parents to meet their children who are below 18 years old first.”

       He admitted that the decision was made based on mental health and welfare of individuals.

       "This is based on the consideration for families who had been put under lockdown for quite some time.

       "For the singles out there, please wait a little while," he said.
