PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 257 Covid-19 deaths on Wednesday (Aug 4), a new daily record.
The figure surpasses the previous record of 219 logged only two days ago on Monday (Aug 2).
In its daily Covid-19 statement, the Health Ministry said Malaysia’s death toll now stands at 9,855.
Currently, 1,069 patients are in intensive care units (ICU) - three more from the previous day.
Some 553 patients are in need of ventilator support.
Of the 257 deaths, 226 were Malaysians while 31 were foreign nationals.
Selangor reported 91 fatalities, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 74, Johor with 25 and Melaka with 24.
Negri Sembilan and Perak reported nine deaths each, Kedah had eight, Sabah had six and Terengganu had four.
Penang and Kelantan each had three death cases while Pahang had one.
At least 206 casualties had some form of comorbidity.
There are 21 cases which have been classified as “brought-in-dead”.
