PETALING JAYA: Congratulatory messages from Malaysians poured in for Datuk Azizulhasni Awang on social media after he won a silver medal in the men’s keirin final at the Tokyo Olympics.
On Facebook, Malaysians heaped praise on the national cyclist and congratulated him on his success.
Ainol Zamaly said Azizul’s silver medal was “gold” for Malaysia.
Syahmi Dzailani expressed great pride in the sportsman: “So proud of Datuk, literally fastest, and was very close to the finishing line.”
Aki Ra commended Azizul for putting Malaysia as the second best in the world of track cycling.
Siew Ting conveyed her gratitude to Azizul for giving Malaysia a medal.
Chey Vun Khen said he had a lot of love and respect for Azizul.
“He has done his best for our nation. Congratulations on winning our very first Olympic silver for cycling!” he said.
Equally ecstatic was Ngipa Unting, who said: “Congratulations! We, Malaysians, are so proud of you! Malaysia Boleh.”
Andrew Chin chimed in: “He made us all proud, salvaged our pride.”
Kevin Tay hailed Azizul’s achievement, saying: “Your time for gold will come in 2024! Well done and be proud of yourself.”
Norani Sulaiman added that Malaysians of all races and religions were proud of him.
Azizulhasni came in second in the pulsating race won by Britain’s Jason Kenny. Dutch world champion Harrie Lavreysen took the bronze.
