IPOH: The Perak government will run as usual amid the ongoing political crisis at Federal level, says Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad.
Saarani, who is also state Umno chairman, said the party will continue to fulfil its responsibility as the state government.
“We will put our focus on overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic and ensuring the people are looked after,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 5).
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had on Tuesday (Aug 3) announced that the party would stand with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and called on all its MPs to rescind their support for the Perikatan Nasional government.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said in a special address on Wednesday (Aug 4) that he will not resign and would table a motion of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat in September.
He said his proposal was approved by Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
Saarani said Perak Umno fully supports the party's supreme council decision to stop supporting the Perikatan government and Muhyiddin.
“It is in line with the decision that was made during the party’s annual general meeting.
“We also believe that Muhyiddin has lost the majority in the Dewan Rakyat following the revoking of support by several Umno MPs,” he added.
