ALOR SETAR: Police have opened an investigation paper on the alleged sale of fake digital vaccination certificates as highlighted on social media recently.

Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the investigation is being conducted under Section 22(d) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"Police received a report on the (claim) at 9.44pm on Tuesday (Aug 10)," he said in a statement on the same day.

Comm Kamarul Zaman said so far, police have not received any report directly pertaining to ownership or sale of fake digital vaccination certificates.

He advised the public to be careful if anyone should offer such fakes for sale.

He also urged anyone with information on the matter to come forward and help in the investigation.

"They can contact the Kedah police headquarters at 04-7741275 or senior investigation officer ASP Noorulazanni Muhammad Noor at 011-10318409," he said.

It was reported that a senior doctor at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital posted on Facebook that fake digital certificates were being sold at RM15 each.

The doctor also questioned how authorities could tell genuine and fake certificates apart.
