PETALING JAYA: Opposition parties are adamant that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should step down as he does not have the majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said there has been no change in his party’s position in calling for Muhyiddin to step down.
“Don’t listen, please,” he said when asked if there was any truth to talk that Warisan was considering working with Muhyiddin’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
“The government (Perikatan) has to go,” he added.
PKR strategic director Sim Tze Tzin said the Prime Minister does not have to wait until the motion of confidence is tabled in the Dewan Rakyat since a chunk of his coalition partners, especially from Umno, has withdrawn support.
“He should step down honourably because if he is voted out in the Dewan, it will be the first in history,” he said when contacted yesterday.
PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said the “open conflict” between the government and the Palace can be seen as the worst crisis between the two, since the constitutional crisis of 1993. He added that the government doesn’t seem to be using all of its machinery to battle the Covid-19 pandemic effectively but instead was “busy politicking to ensure that it stays in power”.
“So, to end all the conflict and challenges... we call on Muhyiddin to resign in line with the principles of the Federal Constitution,” said the Hang Tuah Jaya MP.
DAP assistant national organising secretary Khoo Poay Tiong said his party concurred with its Pakatan Harapan allies in calling for the resignation of the Prime Minister.
“We share the same views as all of our Pakatan partners,” he added.
