PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 20,546 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Aug 15), bringing the country's total cumulative number of infections to 1,404,899.

       In the same 24-hour period, there were 282 fatalities, bringing the death toll to 12,510.

       There were also 16,945 recoveries, which means 1,145,128 have recovered from the disease nationwide.

       There are still 1,059 patients in intensive care units, with 526 requiring ventilation support.

       Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a tweet that Selangor remained the state with the highest number cases at 7,307.

       This is followed by Sabah (1,665), Kedah (1,596), Johor (1,508), Kuala Lumpur (1,442), Penang (1,111), Perak (1,069), Kelantan (1,025), Sarawak, (963), Pahang (926), Negri Sembilan (698), Melaka (631), Terengganu (534), Putrajaya (47), Perlis (21) and Labuan (three).
