PUTRAJAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will chair a special meeting of the Cabinet before he heads to Istana Negara to meet the King today.
The Cabinet meeting is scheduled at 10am at the Perdana Putra building which houses the Prime Minister’s Office.
It is learnt that prior to meeting his ministers, Muhyiddin will hold a session with the Chief Secretary to the Government and other senior government officials.
Muhyiddin will then leave for his audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Sources confirmed that the meeting at the palace is scheduled at about 11.30am.
Aides to several ministers confirmed that their bosses have been summoned for the meeting.
“Yes, (we) received notification that a meeting between the Prime Minister and the Cabinet members will take place,” said one of them.
The Star reported yesterday that Muhyiddin is expected to inform the King of his decision to step down. This follows the immediate rejection of his reform offer to the Opposition. The promised reforms include equal funding for all MPs, limiting the Prime Minister’s term to two, introducing anti-hopping laws, more parliamentary committees with 50% Opposition chairmanship and the implementation of Undi18.
Muhyiddin’s legitimacy came into question when several Umno lawmakers retracted their support.
In the meantime, it was all calm at the federal administrative capital yesterday. There were no sign of “movements” involving ministers clearing their offices.
