FOUNDED in 1821 as the world’s first mechanics institute, Heriot-Watt has a rich heritage and an established reputation as a leading research-led university.
Now, our communities of scholars come from across the world and for a purpose: leaders in ideas and solutions, they deliver innovation and educational excellence in business, engineering, design and the physical, social and life sciences.
Heriot-Watt University Malaysia’s purpose-built campus opened to students in Putrajaya in September 2014 and the formal launch took place on Feb 12, 2015, widening access to quality UK education for all of Asia.
Committed towards positive education
Committed to producing future-ready graduates who will go on to make an impact in the world, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia introduced a Positive Education approach in 2017. Positive Education does not only focus on academic excellence but also the holistic development of individuals.
Through Positive Education, we are nurturing purposeful, impactful, professional and resilient individuals.
Heriot-Watt University is aware of the challenges the youth of today face in terms of maintaining a healthy mind-set, managing stress as well as develop meaningful social relationships in a landscape that has also become increasingly digitised. The university is no stranger to pioneering the global educational landscape with world-class programmes enhanced with a unique Positive Education approach.
With Positive Education, focus is also directed at the development of students’ emotional intelligence as they are taught coping strategies in managing their time effectively, cultivating a positive mindset, and developing self-confidence, interpersonal and communication skills and a sense of purpose.
Start local, go global
At Heriot-Watt, there is the opportunity to become a global student by taking part in an Inter-Campus Transfer under our Go Global programme. Under this programme, students have the option of transferring to the UK or Dubai campuses at any time during their studies with guaranteed placements for all of our programmes.
Under the Go Global programme, you are able to switch between our campuses every semester or every year, and choose to graduate in any of them.
What is important is that your studies will not be interrupted. Our programmes offer the same content, examinations, and resources wherever you are, ensuring the same quality Heriot-Watt is known for throughout your studies. What’s more, the certificate you receive upon graduation will also be the same as your counterparts in both the UK and Dubai campuses.
This arrangement is especially valued in today’s changing health environment which has limited the ability to travel and study abroad. Heriot-Watt’s Go Global programme enables those who wish to study abroad the chance to do so whenever travel restrictions eases.
Throughout its journey for over 200 years, Heriot-Watt has built its reputation on adapting and evolving its teaching, learning and research to meet the changing needs of industry and society.
The University continues with this tradition by focusing on industry relevant programmes. These programmes mainly cover the fields of business, actuarial science, chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, energy, enterprise, finance, marketing, psychology, built environment, computing and data science.
The University also offers foundation programmes that are designed to smoothly transition a student to its undergraduate programmes.
The University also offers both postgraduate taught and research programmes. While our postgraduate taught programmes provide an extension and further focus from our undergraduate studies, our PhD programmes offer first-class training in both specialist and generic skills that focuses on the necessary support for career development.
We are currently approaching the close of our last intake for the year 2021. Application for all programmes and study levels are still open for our September intake, with a deadline on 5th September 2021.
