JOHOR BARU: Johor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia will continue to support state Umno chief Datuk Hasni Mohammad as Mentri Besar until further notice, following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.
"God willing, all 12 Bersatu assemblymen will still support the Johor government until there is a further directive from the party leadership," Johor Bersatu secretary Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal said here on Monday (Aug 16).
The Bukit Kepong assemblyman had been asked if Bersatu still supported the Umno-led state government, following political developments in the country.
Dr Sahruddin, who is also state Perikatan Nasional secretary, had said in a statement earlier that the actions of some parties had led to the country's political crisis.
Disrupting the stability of government administration at this time was regrettable, he had said, adding that the focus should instead be on addressing the Covid-19 health crisis and economic hardship faced by the people.
Dr Sahruddin said the insistence of certain quarters in calling for Muhyiddin's resignation when the country was still being tested did not solve anything.
The Perikatan state government holds 29 seats in the 56-seat state assembly comprising Umno (14), Bersatu (12), MIC (two), and PAS (one).
The Opposition has 27 seats, comprising DAP (14), PKR (seven) and Amanah (six).
On Thursday, Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar said he would not hesitate to dissolve the state assembly if assemblymen continued to engage in power struggles that threatened the state government.
