KOTA KINABALU: Upko has confirmed that it remains in the Opposition bloc and supports PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the next prime minister.
Upko secretary-general Nelson Anggang said that Upko president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau signed a statutory declaration in support of Anwar.
Anggang said this was to confirm the party's stand to clarify reports claiming that Madius had yet to make his stand clear on his choice.
He said Madius' stand had always been consistent and supported the Pakatan Harapan leader.
"Our president Madius, who is also Tuaran MP, submitted his statutory declaration to Istana negara confirming his support for Anwar," he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Aug 17).
Upko is among the 105 MPs in the Opposition bloc.
Anwar is seeking the support of at least six more MPs to reach a total of 111 MPs to obtain a simple majority of the 220 MPs.
