PETALING JAYA: Umno has called off a special supreme council meeting which was scheduled to take place on Saturday (Aug 21) night.
The notice to postpone the meeting was issued by Umno working secretary Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan.
Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Reezal Naina Merican had also confirmed that the meeting was called off earlier today.
It is believed that the meeting was called off following the swearing-in of Umno vice president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the ninth Prime Minister earlier on Saturday at Istana Negara.
The appointment of Ismail Sabri was seen by the party as a return of the post of prime minister to Umno.
The post was previously held by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
