ALOR SETAR: The Mineral and Geoscience Department will launch a thorough investigation into the cause of the devastating Gunung Jerai landslide.
Its director Abdullah Sulaiman said they would mobilise a state-level taskforce to conduct an initial investigation into what really caused the incident on Wednesday (Aug 18).
"Our focus now will be on what caused the incident. The team will also conduct a risk evaluation of the area," he said after visiting one of the affected areas at Titi Hayun Recreational Centre on Saturday (Aug 21).
Abdullah said currently they would use drones to survey the area as site conditions were still unsafe for a physical inspection. Adding that they would also enlist the help of the state Survey and Mapping Department.
He said initial investigation results would be available on Monday (Aug 23).
