IPOH: Police seized RM187,000 worth of drugs during a raid at a condominium at Jalan Medan Ipoh.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said more than 5kg of ecstasy powder was seized in the raid.
"The drugs were found in 89 fruity-flavoured drinks packets around 11.45pm on Aug 20.
"We also arrested a 20-year-old male suspect," he told reporters at the Ipoh police headquarters on Tuesday (Aug 24).
ACP Yahaya said the during the raid, the suspect had four packets of drugs with him.
"After the arrest, we conducted a search in a white car located within the condominium premise where we found another 20 packets of drugs.
"We then proceeded to the suspect’s condominium where the remaining 65 packets of drugs were found.
"We also seized some empty packets and equipment used to pack the drugs," he said, adding that the suspect is from Gua Musang, Kelantan," he said.
He said the suspect rented the condominium and the drugs were believed to be distributed to clubs in the city.
He added that the suspect might also have several accomplices.
"Usually in cases like this, he might have a friend working together.
"The suspect has no specific jobs and has been placed under remand for six days starting from Aug 21.
"He was tested negative for drugs and had a prior criminal record involving drugs," he said.
The case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act that carried a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
