Covid-19 Watch: 265 fatalities bring death toll to 14,818

       PUTRAJAYA: A further 265 people in Malaysia have died due to Covid-19, says the Health Ministry.

       In his daily Covid-19 statement on Wednesday (Aug 25), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country’s death toll now stood at 14,818.

       Of the 265 fatalities, 219 were Malaysians while 46 were foreign nationals.

       The fatalities also included 69 cases classified as “brought in dead”.

       Selangor had the most deaths with 105 fatalities reported.

       Other states and territories with casualties are: Johor (39), Sabah (23), Kedah (19), Kuala Lumpur (18), Penang (18), Negri Sembilan (12), Perak (nine), Sarawak (six), Kelantan (five), Pahang (five), Melaka (four) and Terengganu (two).

       Currently, the country has 1,003 patients under intensive care with 490 on breathing assistance.

       Nationwide, there are 264,292 active cases of Covid-19.

       On Wednesday, the country reported 22,642 new Covid-19 cases, taking the cumulative total to 1,616,244.

       Dr Noor Hisham said 97.9% of the cases are either mild or asymptomatic infections.

       The other 2.1% cases are those in Category 3, 4 and 5.

       Overall, 80.1% of Wednesday's cases involve those who either had not completed their vaccination dosage or were unvaccinated.

       The ministry also identified 42 new Covid-19 clusters nationwide, bringing the active figure to 1,458.

       Of the 42 new clusters, 23 were workplace-related outbreaks with 878 confirmed cases in total.

       There were also 13 community clusters involving at least 325 cases.
