KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal calls on the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state government to channel efforts towards getting more ventilators and setting up more Covid-19 treatment centres.

In a statement here on Friday (Aug 27), the former chief minister noted that with hospitals stretched due to the rising number of cases, there were not enough beds and facilities to treat Covid-19 patients.

Shafie proposed that more treatment centres be set up at the Lok Kawi Army Camp and Sepanggar Naval Base to cater to the rising number of cases.

"There is more than enough space at these two locations for makeshift hospitals and furthermore they have their own doctors who can assist," he said.

Shafie added that with the latest daily cases on Thursday (Aug 26) at 3,487, statistics have also indicated that over the past month, the average weekly increment rate of infection in Sabah was 266%.

He described this as alarming, more so when Sabah’s vaccination rate continues to be slower (54.5%) than the nation's average of over 75% of the targeted population for the first dose.
