PETALING JAYA: There were 20,579 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Aug 29), bringing the cumulative total to 1,706,089 infections, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

       The Health director-general tweeted that Selangor remained the state with the highest number of cases with 4,591 infections, followed by Sabah (2,578) and Sarawak (2,522).

       The number of cases in other states and territories are as follows: Johor (1,852), Kedah (1,755), Penang (1,378), Kelantan (1,316), Perak (1,208), Pahang (839), Terengganu (789), Kuala Lumpur (680), Melaka (636), Negri Sembilan (329), Perlis (56), Putrajaya (48) and Labuan (two).

       In the same 24-hour period, there were 285 fatalities, bringing the death toll to 16,087.

       There were also 20,845 recoveries, which means 1,422,005 have recovered from the disease nationwide.

       There are still 1,009 patients in intensive care units, with 477 requiring ventilator support.
