KUALA LUMPUR: Efforts will be focused on six states in the country to ramp up the vaccination rates among the adult population there, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said there were six states whose proportion of adult population receiving their second doses fell below 50%.
They are Perak (46.5%), Terengganu (46.2%), Johor (44.9%), Kedah (43.2%), Kelantan (43.1%), and Sabah (37.1%).
He said the government has targeted for these six states to have 50% of their adult population to be fully vaccinated by September at the very latest.
He added that if there were delays with vaccine deliveries, the authorities will use whichever vaccine stocks that are at hand.
"We don't want to have any delays just because we are waiting for vaccines, which end up making Malaysians the victims.
"If there are problems with deliveries, we will concentrate on vaccines that are at hand.
"We cannot wait, those unvaccinated must be vaccinated," he said in a press conference at World Trade Centre KL on Sunday (Aug 29).
