PETALING JAYA: Malaysians today need the same spirit as their ancestors, who fought for the country's independence, to fight the Covid-19 pandemic as a Malaysian Family, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

       In his Facebook statement on Monday (Aug 30), Dr Wee said Malaysians must bond together regardless of political alignments to persevere during the pandemic and restore the economy.

       “Just like the independence fighters, we also need a spirit like theirs today, which is to work together as a Malaysian Family regardless of political alignment, fight Covid-19 and restore the economy for the benefit of the people and the country,” he said.

       Dr Wee also expressed his gratitude to the frontliners who worked hard fighting against the pandemic that has yet to end despite almost two years in battle.

       “Today, we are struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic. We have been fighting this pandemic for almost two years, but we are still not completely free, and the emergence of new variants are equally challenging.

       “However, we are on the right track when the Covid-19 National Immunisation Program (PICK) is seen to be running better than planned.

       "More Malaysians are receiving the vaccine in our efforts to build herd immunity.

       “Thank you to all the staff on the front line who have worked hard during the day and night for the country,” he said.

       The newly appointed Transport Minister also said that the peaceful country Malaysians are living in today is indebted to the independence fighters that worked hand in hand with each other.

       “The blessings that we enjoy today are due to the sacrifices of those in the past, those who sacrificed everything to fight for the country's independence.

       “Working hand in hand with each other makes us a free nation and lives in peace and harmony to this day,” he wrote.
