KUCHING: Sarawak's new Covid-19 cases surpassed the 3,000 mark for the second straight day as it led all states and territories in the country with 3,714 infections on Monday (Sept 6).

The state also reported 12 new fatalities, taking the cumulative tally to 134,612 cases with a death toll of 576.

The state disaster management committee said 3,710 or 99.9% of the new cases were classified in categories one (asymptomatic) and two (mild symptoms).

There were two cases each in categories three (symptomatic with lung infection) and five (symptomatic and requiring ventilator), it said in a statement.

Kuching continued to record the highest number of cases in the state with 1,765, followed by Samarahan (358), Sibu (276), Bintulu (158) and Asajaya (121).

A further 30 districts reported between one and 98 cases each.

Of the latest fatalities, the committee said six were brought-in-dead (BID) to the Pusa health clinic and Sarawak General Hospital.

It also said two new community clusters were identified at a longhouse in Pakan and Kampung Bijongon in Bau.

Five workplace clusters were also detected, involving workers at a supermarket in Bau, restaurants in Miri and Kuching, an oil palm mill in Beluru and a childcare centre in Kuching.
