KUALA LUMPUR: A foreigner has been severely injured after being slashed by a man, believed to be mentally unstable, near the Taman Sri Sentosa Community Hall here.

However, both victim and suspect were staying silent over the reason for the attack.

Brickfields deputy OCPD Supt Basri Sagoni said the incident occurred at around 8.20pm on Wednesday.

"We were alerted by a 52-year-old man to two men fighting and one of them had suffered slash wounds.

"The complainant, who works as a security guard at the location, witnessed the incident," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 2).

The complainant did not know the suspect or the victim, he added.

He said investigations found that a man believed to be mentally unstable allegedly attacked the victim with a parang.

"The suspect then ran into the bushes behind the Community Hall.

"The 32-year-old victim is believed to be a foreigner. He suffered serious injuries to his cheek, neck and left elbow in the attack," he said.

Supt Basri said police went to the area where the suspect was last seen at around 10pm on the same day and arrested a 31-year-old man, also a foreigner.

"We seized the clothes which we believe he wore during the attack.

"A urine test came back negative for drugs," he said.

K-9 and forensics units were called to look for the weapon but could not find it, he added.

According to Supt Basri, the motive for the attack has yet to be established as the victim and suspect were not cooperating and had refused to talk.

He said the case was being investigated as voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon and not having valid documents.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222 or the City police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
