PETALING JAYA: There were another 323 Covid-19 related deaths reported on Thursday (Sept 9), as the cumulative total of fatalities reached 19,486, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Health Minister said this was 1% of the 1,919,774 cumulative cases of Covid-19 that had been reported in the country.

Sarawak remained the state with the highest number of cases, with 3,118 new infections.

Selangor is second with 2,700 cases, followed by Sabah (2,298) and Penang (2,243).

Khairy said that about 98.4%, or 19,005 of the country’s latest Covid-19 cases were either mild and asymptomatic infections (Category 1 and 2), while 302 cases, or 1.6% of them were in Categories 3, 4, and 5.

“In general, we can see a slight decrease in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country, where the R0 is at 0.97. Several states have shown improvements such as Klang Valley, Negri Sembilan, Labuan and Melaka, where there is a positive trend,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Another 24,855 people were discharged, which means recoveries had outnumbered new cases for the ninth consecutive day.

Currently, there are 242,802 active Covid-19 cases.

Khairy also said that they have detected 27 new Covid-19 clusters, bringing the number of active ones to 1,450.
