PETALING JAYA: Any call for a motion of confidence to test Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's Parliamentary support as prime minister would be going against the King's demands for a bipartisan approach in dealing with Covid-19, says Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.

       The Padang Rengas MP also said the question of tabling such a motion in Parliament is no longer relevant after the King's speech at the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Sept 13).

       On Sept 11, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Ismail Sabri's reform proposals are welcomed, but a motion of confidence must still be tabled in the House to confirm that the Bera MP has majority support.

       Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had called for a bipartisan and consensus approach in managing the country amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, as it could usher in a new political landscape.

       The King said such a mature approach in governing the country was what the rakyat desired.

       Nazri said he fully supported the memorandum of understanding (MOU) that is due to be signed by the government and Pakatan Harapan on Monday evening.

       "It is in line with the King's speech. It is right, because we are fighting Covid-19 and we are in the process of economic recovery.

       "If all MPs are concerned about the rakyat, they should support the MOU," he added.

       The government and Pakatan are expected to sign the MOU on bipartisan cooperation on proposed reforms to ensure political stability in the fight against Covid-19.

       Last Friday, Ismail Sabri said the Cabinet had agreed to a number of key reforms, among them a 10-year limit for the prime minister's term, an anti-party-hopping law, and the inclusion of Opposition input in Bills involving government spending.
