KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's daily Covid-19 cases dipped for the fourth time this month to below 2,000 daily cases.

State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said that the state recorded 1,717 cases with Kota Kinabalu seeing a significant drop.

The state has been seeing an average of over 2,000 cases daily in August and saw numbers drop below 2,000 for three days from Sept 4 to 6. But, it again went up to above 2,000 cases over the last five days.

Masidi said that overall cases dropped by 446 cases with significant reductions in Kota Kinabalu, and the districts of Papar, Kota Marudu, Lahad Datu, Putatan, Kudat and Keningau.

However, the east coast Sandakan district recorded 255 new cases.

Masidi said 977 (56.9%) of the new cases were from close contact while 464 cases (27.06%) were from symptomatic testing.

He said the remaining were from existing clusters as well 25 cases were from those detained.

Of the 1,717 new cases, 27 were classified under the more severe Category 3-5 of the infection while the remaining were under the mild category 1-2 of the Covid-19 infection.

The state's total vaccination rate was 51.8% for two doses and 67.4% for the first dose, he said.
