KOTA KINABALU: An 86-year-old woman has been found safely after she went missing while feeding her cats and chickens on Sept 11.
Tianun Padis had gone out at around 7am to feed her chickens and cats at her old house some 500m from where she currently lives at Kg Kalibungan, and was supposed to return home at about 9am.
However, she did not return at her usual time and her grandson could not find her when he went to search for her.
A report was lodged the following day and a search operation was mounted, said State Fire and Rescue Department officials.
When contacted, Kota Belud fire station chief Muhammad Syazwan Latun said that when they found Tianun, she had said that she lost her way home and had been searching for a way out of the woods for the past few days.
"She thought no one was looking for her and said that she felt sad because no one seemed to bother to come searching," he said, adding that they told her a search-and-rescue operation had been mounted since a report was lodged on Sept 12.
Muhammad added that Tianun was found when she reached a gravel road at Kg Ginapis, some 1.24km from where she was last seen.
He added that a couple had seen her and recognised her as the missing person, and had driven her home before calling for assistance from the authorities.
Muhammad added that Tianun was brought to the hospital for an examination and cuts and bruises were found on her arms and legs.
