KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan will adopt a “neutral stance” should there be a confidence vote for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in the Dewan Rakyat.
Lim Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) said this was among the things agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding signed between the government and the Opposition.
“I would like to stress that what happened is an agreement by Pakatan Harapan that if there is a confidence vote (on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob), the Opposition will adopt a neutral stance (sikap berkecuali),” said Lim.
He said the same stance would apply to Budget 2022, which the Opposition could either support or abstain from voting on.
On Monday, the government and opposition leaders signed a historic MOU in Parliament, which paved the way for a bipartisan and consensual approach in bringing stability and reform for the nation.
The MOU covers six areas – empowering the Covid-19 plan, administrative transformation, rejuvenation of Parliament, independence of judicial institutions, issues involving the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the setting up of a steering committee.
The restructuring of Parliament’s Special Select Committee and increasing of committee numbers should the need arise, would also be implemented immediately.
