JOHOR BARU: The suspects believed to be involved in the pollution at Kampung Baru Sri Aman near Kempas here will be remanded for three days.
The Johor Department of Environment (DOE) said the remand order application for the eight suspects has been approved by the Johor Baru Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday (Sept 16).
“The suspects were brought to the court with assistance from the Johor Baru North police headquarters and DOE’s investigation officers and the department’s state prosecution unit.
“Further investigation would be conducted on the suspects. Their statements would also be recorded,” said the department in a statement posted on Facebook here on Thursday.
It was earlier reported that the authorities arrested nine suspects to assist in investigation under Section 34B of the Environment Quality Act 1974 following reports of pollution at Kampung Sri Aman.
On Tuesday (Sept 12), some 37 families from the village were evacuated following a chemical pollution.
