PUTRAJAYA: The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the country now stands at 2,067,327 after recording 17,577 new infections, including three imported cases.
Sarawak recorded the most number of cases yesterday at 3,480, followed by Selangor (2,646), Johor (2,334), Perak (1,596), Sabah (1,533), Penang (1,462) and Kedah (1,173).
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 17,574 local cases reported, 87.8% or 15,438 involved Malaysians while 2,136 (12.2%) were foreigners.
“There are 1,223 cases needing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU),” he said in his daily statement.
They comprised 891 Covid-19 patients and 332 suspected, probable and cases under investigation.
The national ICU utilisation rate is now at 78.7%.
The ICU utilisation rate for Kedah and Kelantan, which was operating at overcapacity for days, is now at 93.9% and 69.8%.
Two places recorded ICU usage of below 50% – Negri Sembilan at 47.3% and Labuan at 21.7%.
Yesterday, the Health Ministry also identified 19 new clusters, taking the active number to 1,387.
The highest number of cases involved a workplace in Jalan Simpang Pulai Cameron in Kinta, Perak.
The cluster, which recorded 257 cases out of 355 individuals tested, was discovered following targeted screenings carried out on workers at a farm.
The cumulative number of active Covid-19 cases is now at 227,120 cases, an increase of 1,530 cases from the previous day.
Of the total active cases, 189,657 or 83.5% are patients with mild infections undergoing home quarantine.
