KOTA KINABALU: Unity and togetherness remain key elements in a nation's success and prosperity, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (pic), while wishing the country a "Happy Malaysia Day" on Thursday (Sept 16).
The Sabah Chief Minister urged citizens to rise up and strive towards becoming a dignified Malaysian Family.
"May this country of ours continue to prosper in peace and harmony, with its people living in unity and tolerance," he said on his Facebook page.
Hajiji also recalled the words said by the late Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia's first prime minister, when he declared the formation of Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963, which was 'on this auspicious day, in the name of the God almighty, we will defend our flag, race and country with all our might',".
"This historical event is etched in our memories and will never be forgotten by all Malaysians," he said.
Hajiji said like the rest of the world, Malaysia is facing the Covid-19 pandemic that has stunted economic growth.
"Due to the hard work of our leaders, we will get through this and are in the process of recovery.
"On behalf of Sabah, I would like to wish us all a Happy Malaysia Day, let us all rise up to become respected Malaysians," he added.
