THERE are plans to expand Covid-19 virtual assessment centres (CAC) to several states, says Khairy Jamaluddin (pic).
“Following the success of the virtual CAC in monitoring Category One and Two cases in the Greater Klang Valley, efforts are being taken for a similar move in other states to deal with the high number of cases,” the Health Minister said when replying a question by Datuk Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (PN-Sabak Bernam).
He said it would allow initial assessment to be carried out virtually on the patients before they were referred for further medical checks.
At present, he said a total of 209 CAC had been set up in all districts nationwide with plans to set up more in districts with rising cases.
He said the CAC merely carried out assessment and evaluation and that no treatment was provided.
“The CAC will either recommend a home quarantine order for those tested positive but without symptoms while referring symptomatic cases for medical treatment.
“There is no need for appointments to be made prior to a visit to the CAC following a reduction in Covid-19 cases recently. Walk-in is now allowed,” Khairy said.
On brought-in-dead cases, he said efforts were being made to bring down the number of such fatalities.
He said it could be achieved through empowerment of local community leaders.
