Sabah likely to return to travel zone system for districts with 60% vaccination rate, says Masidi

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah plans to re-introduce the zone travel system for travel as early as Oct 1, says Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

"Most probably on Oct 1, for districts that have achieved at least 60% fully vaccinated adult population," said the state Covid-19 spokesperson on Saturday.

During the state assembly sitting earlier this week, Masidi said that Sabah would return to the zoning system.

The state would be divided into six zones and those within adjacent zones are allowed to cross districts, except for districts that have yet to reach this percentage.

The state has since surpassed the 60% vaccination rate for its adult population, but some districts' immunisation rates are lower than the state average.

Masidi had previously said that the carrot-and-stick approach – where only districts that have reached the targeted percentage can move around – is expected to push people to get vaccinated.

He also stated in the daily statement to update Covid-19 developments here, that the state government sector is now permitting 80% of the manpower to return to work in the office, while 20% will work from home.
