PUTRAJAYA: More than two million people in Malaysia have recovered from Covid-19 since the pandemic began, reports the Health Ministry on Monday (Sept 27).

       In his daily Covid-19 statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 16,430 patients were discharged from treatment on Monday.

       “Cumulatively, the country has reported 2,005,947 Covid-19 recoveries. This is a recovery rate of 90.8%,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

       With 10,959 new cases reported, Malaysia has seen Covid-19 recoveries outnumber new cases for the 11th day straight.

       The last time Malaysia reported fewer daily cases was on July 18, when the country recorded 10,710 infections.

       Only two states reported a four-digit case increase - Sarawak with 2,723 cases and Johor with 1,226 cases.

       Selangor recorded 979 new cases, its lowest since early May.

       Kuala Lumpur continued reporting low case numbers, with 298 new infections reported.

       Dr Noor Hisham said of the 10,949 new cases, about 98% of them are either mild or asymptomatic infections.

       Some 205 cases (1.9%) are Category 3, 4 and 5.

       The number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) has dropped below the 1,000 mark to 980 cases.

       Dr Noor Hisham said of the 980 ICU patients, 862 are confirmed Covid-19 cases, while the others are suspected cases.

       There are 579 patients on ventilator support.

       Malaysia’s infectivity rate is at an Rt level of 0.92, as of Sunday (Sept 26).

       Pahang, with an Rt level of 1.02, is the sole state in the country with an Rt level of more than 1.

       The Health Ministry has identified 19 new infection clusters nationwide.

       This brings the current total of active ones to 1,165.
