KUALA TERENGGANU (Bernama): Two prisoners have been charged in the Sessions Court here with causing the death of a fellow inmate after beating him up last month.
Adura Mustaffa, 39, and Azizul Danial Muhammad, 35, pleaded not guilty to jointly causing the death of Hamiddi Kamaruddin, 48, when the charge was read out to them before Judge Nooriah Osman on Monday (Sept 27).
They were charged with committing the offence at Marang Prison at 2pm on Aug 21, under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code which carries a jail term of up to 30 years and a fine, if convicted.
Judge Nooriah Osman set Nov 3 for next mention.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Intan Nor Hilwani Mat Rifin while the two accused were unrepresented.
Meanwhile, Marang district police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Zain Mat Dris said in a statement that following investigations, it was found the two suspects had allegedly hit the victim with their bare hands, causing him serious injuries.
He said the victim died at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here on Aug 26 after the head and chest injuries he sustained in the alleged beating led to complications caused by bacterial infection. – Bernama
