A WIDOW lost her home in a fire for the second time in five years, Makkal Osai reported.

Rajathi Saminathan, 50, said the fire started at 10.45am on Sunday and quickly spread throughout the house in Sikamat, Negri Sembilan.

Her two younger children aged 10 and 12, who were sleeping on the ground floor, managed to escape.

The house was damaged in a fire about five years ago and was rebuilt with the help of the Fire and Rescue Department.

Rajathi never imagined it could happen a second time, taking with it belongings and valuables worth RM50,000, including gold jewellery saved up for her elder daughter’s wedding this year.

Three fire engines and 12 firefighters from Paroi battled for two hours to put out the fire.

Rajathi’s husband passed away about a year ago.

       > Ancient and religious works of art, including sculptures stolen from India, were returned to the country during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington, Makkal Osai reported.

Modi was on a three-day official visit to the United States at the invitation of President Joe Biden.
