THE habit of eating takeout with a high fat content for every meal has landed a young man in hospital, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The 24-year-old from Foshan in China was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis and had “milky blood” after he was admitted following abdominal pain.

The colour of his plasma, which should be a translucent light yellow, was milky-white. After confirming he had hyperlipidaemia acute pancreatitis, the doctors formulated a plan to do a blood plasma exchange treatment.

It was understood that white plasma happens when the blood contains a higher than usual amount of fat and the most common cause is the combined influence of genetics and lifestyle factors.

Due to his busy work schedule, the man admitted that he rarely has home-cooked meals, has an irregular diet, and had two previous run-ins with pancreatitis.

He also said that he didn’t not control what he ate or drank.

From his delivery order history, in August alone, he had 12 meals that consisted of food with a high amount of fat, such as fried chicken, braised and roasted meat.

His condition is reported to be stable.

       > Oriental Daily reported that three pet cats in Harbin, China, had to be put to sleep after they tested positive for Covid-19.

Local authorities said this had to be done because there was no available treatment for animals with Covid-19 as yet.

They said keeping the animals would have also put the owner and other residents nearby at risk.

The owner, who was known as Liu, shared on Weibo – China’s version of Twitter – that she tested positive on Sept 21 and was admitted to the hospital.

She said her Siamese cat and two Persian cats later also tested positive and she was told that they would have to be put to sleep.

Devastated, she sought help and support online to save her cats. However, Liu updated on Tuesday night that her cats were “no more”.

“I don’t want to blame anyone. The people’s safety comes first,” she said.

       > China Press reported that a reminder by a supermarket worker in Pingdong, Taiwan, to a man to mask up resulted in a vicious attack.

The Sunday morning incident saw the man going behind the counter and hitting the woman on her head and poking at her eyes repeatedly, resulting in swelling and retinal detachment of one of her eyes, which may lead to blindness.

The man, who is mentally unsound, has a previous record of criminal intimidation using a knife. He was freed after spending nine months in jail.

He has been arrested and sent to the hospital for compulsory detention and treatment.
