KUALA LUMPUR: A drug distribution and processing syndicate has been crippled with the arrest of two suspects here.

       City Narcotics Crime Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Sahar Abd Latif said police initially raided a supermarket at Metro Prima, Taman Kepong, at around 2pm on Sept 28.

       "We arrested two men aged 46 and 53. Our investigations revealed they were allegedly involved in processing and delivering the drugs.

       "During the raid, one of the suspects was carting away a trolley with over 1.3kg of a substance believed to be heroin worth RM 47,880," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 30).

       He added that checks on the other suspect found three ecstasy pills.

       "When we checked a car used by one of the suspects, we found 91 ecstasy pills worth RM1,365 hidden inside the subwoofer box in the car boot.

       "We also seized RM201 cash during our search," he said, adding that one of the suspects had a record of 10 prior criminal offences and tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

       He said following interrogation of the suspects, police raided a double-storey house along Jalan Permatang Maju 2/1 Aman, Permatang Maju in Sitiawan, Perak, on Wednesday (Sept 29).

       "We uncovered a drug laboratory there which was used by the syndicate to process heroin.

       "The suspects rented the house for RM600 monthly for a six-month period," he said, adding that police seized 1.27kg of methylenedioxymethamphetamine, 458g of heroin, 8.82kg of a powder believed to be drugs, 5.25 litres of chemicals, and drug processing equipment.

       He estimated the seizures in Perak and Kepong to be worth RM438,036.

       "We believe with the arrest and seizures, we have crippled a syndicate which was actively processing and distributing drugs around the Klang Valley and Perak," he said.
