M8 traffic latest: Lanes closed as man rushed to hospital after horror HGV crash

       The driver was rushed to hospital after two HGV drivers smashed into one another on the M8 motorway. Police and emergency crews had been called to the incident at Junctions 26 and 27 of the Westbound carriageway near Renfrew at midday this afternoon.

       Motorists on the M8 have since faced lengthy queues following the incident.

       Traffic Scotland reported that three lanes were closed following the incident on the M8 motorway.

       Reports from Police Scotland have said that only one of the drivers involved in the incident was taken to hospital.

       Since the incident, the section of the motorway which was affected by the crash has since reopened.

       A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 12.05pm on Tuesday, 5 October, 2021, police were called to a road crash westbound on the M8 at J26 where two lorries collided with each other.

       “One male driver taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

       “No details on injury.

       “The road is re-opened.

       “No further police action.”

       This incident comes just a few weeks after three men tragically lost their lives in a crash on the M8.

       The crash was a one-car crash and as well as the three men who had died, another five had been taken to hospital.

       Officers had confirmed that two men aged 27 and another aged 31 were tragically killed in the crash.

       The further five who were taken to hospital were treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

       Following the incident, Inspector Darren Cook, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of those who have lost their lives as a result of this crash.

       “Our enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and we are seeking assistance from the public to help with our investigation.

       “Although this happened in the early hours of the morning, we believe there may be other road users that can help with our enquiry.

       “I would ask if you were driving in the area around the time of the incident or have possible dashcam footage that you come forward and speak to officers.

       “Police can be contacted by calling 101 and quoting incident number 0860 of Sunday, 19 September, 2021.”
