Justice Secretary Dominic Raab has laid down the law when it comes to the blocking of roads by climate protestors. Mr Raab told LBC himself and the Home Secretary Priti Patel planned to increase fines and sentences for those guilty of blocking traffic such as with the Insulate Britain's actions on the M25 in recent weeks. He slammed Insulate Britain for "effectively sabotaging the public."

Mr Raab told LBC: "We are going to increase the sentence, unlimited fine.

He also promised a "custodial sentence for those that for example with the M25 or any other motorway paralyze commuters, passengers, people engaged in public transport.

"They are not trying to exercise freedom of expression, they are trying to disrupt and effectively sabotage the public going about their ordinary business.

"We are going to increase the penalties for that."

It comes a day after Insulate Britain spokeswoman Fiona Atkinson was branded an "idiot" by TalkRADIO host James Whale during a heated on-air spat.

Ms Atkinson told TalkRADIO: "We would really rather not be doing it at all, we would rather be doing something else

"If the Government and the media were doing their job we wouldn't have to."

"Are you insulting me?" quired Mr Whale.

The Insulate Britain spokeswoman replied: "I wouldn't say I was insulting you, I would like to think I was challenging you."

"Well, it is not a challenge really because you don't seem to know very much about climate change," argued the TalkRADIO host.

When Ms Atkinson took offense, Mr Whale clarified he was referring to the organisation Insulate Britain.

However, the spokeswoman continued: "But you haven't asked me what I know about climate."

"Well, sorry I am not getting in that debate because you don't seem to know very much," said Mr Whale.

The row continued with pair interrupting once another before Ms Atkinson remarked: "I was asked to come one to talk about Insulate Britain."

"Well I didn't ask you to come on did I?" snapped Mr Whale.

The Insulate Britain campaigner proceeded to tell off the host, telling Mr Whale the producer she had spoken to before going on air had been "much more polite than you."

Mr Whale retorted: "I have never been police in my life to idiots like you I am sorry.
