The Queen travelled to Edinburgh on Saturday, for the opening ceremony of the sixth session of Scottish Parliament. Prince Charles and Camilla, also known as the Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland attended the event. Speaking about her late husband Prince Philip for the first time since his death, the Queen said: "I have spoken before of my deep and abiding affection for this wonderful country, and of the many happy memories Prince Philip and I always held of our time here."

Her Majesty went on to say: "It is often said that it is the people that make a place, and there are few places where this is truer than in Scotland, as we have seen in recent times."

Speaking on Royally US podcast, hosts Christina Garibaldi and Molly Mulshine discussed the Queen's latest public appearance.

Ms Garibaldi said: "It breaks your heart, you think about all the years they spent together, and all the memories that they created."

"She touched on him just a little bit in this speech, but it seems like they had a lot of fun times in Scotland together."

Molly added: "I think Scotland was such a huge place for them, he was the Duke of Edinburgh, so clearly it was something they always wanted to keep at the top of their mind."

"They were always at Balmoral, doing their yearly holiday. It definitely seems like the perfect time to give him a little shout-out."

Christina asked: "Is this her first abroad trip since the pandemic? I know obviously, she spends a lot of time in Scotland and at Balmoral, but is this her first state duty over there in a while?"

Molly speculated: "I think it is, she definitely did a lot of Zoom stuff, but it seems like it's been a while since we saw photos of her actually doing something."

Since the event, the Queen has returned to Windsor Castle, officially ending her annual summer break in Balmoral.

The Queen had been staying at her Scottish residence since 23 July.

Over the months she has hosted many family members, including The Cambridges, Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, Princess Eugenie, Jack Brooksbank, and their baby son August.

Balmoral is widely believed to be the monarch's favorite residence. In the documentary, Our Queen at Ninety, Princess Eugenie remarked: "I think Granny is the most happy there. I think she really, really loves the Highlands."

The monarch has resided at Windsor Castle since the death of her husband Prince Philip, who died in April.

It was reported that the Queen will continue to use Buckingham Palace as an office where she will carry out official Royal work.

As for her residence, she won't be living in the Palace any longer.

The development came as no surprise, as Windsor Castle is the final resting place of her late husband.
