Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement in November 2017, after months of speculation. At that point, Harry had been dating then-actress Meghan for several months, and royal fans were eager to know if Harry would finally tie the knot.
In their sit-down interview following their engagement announcement, the couple said they had been introduced by a "mutual friend".
The couple had been quietly dating, and at one point Meghan accompanied Harry on a trip to Botswana.
But in the October issue of Vanity Fair, released a month before their engagement was announced, royal fans were delighted to hear Meghan speak about how "really happy and in love" the couple were.

She told the magazine: "I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple.
“We’re two people who are really happy and in love.
“We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed."
A month later, Clarence House would announce Meghan and Harry's engagement, with a wedding scheduled for spring 2018.
Following their engagement, Harry and Meghan attended a photocall in the gardens of Kensington Palace.
Harry was asked when he knew Meghan was 'the one', to which he replied: "The very first time we met."
Harry's love for Meghan was evident with his choice of engagement ring, which featured two diamonds that belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana.

The central stone of the ring was sourced from Botswana, a country close to the couple's hearts.
The proposal took place at their home in London on what Meghan described as a "cosy night".
She said they were "trying to roast a chicken and it just - just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee."
Almost six months after their engagement was announced, Harry and Meghan married on May 19, 2018.
The wedding took place at St George's Chapel Windsor, and crowds of well-wishers lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the happy couple.
The newly-created Duke and Duchess of Sussex would later welcome son Archie Harrison in May 2019, and daughter Lilibet Diana in June 2021.
