MELAKA: Civil servants will continue to ensure the well-being and safety of Melakans in facing the Covid-19 pandemic without being too distracted by the dissolution of the state assembly, says Datuk Kamel Mohamad.

       The Melaka state secretary said civil servants will continue to execute their duties to ensure the Covid-19 vaccination programme and economic activities continue.

       He said the civil service in Melaka will continue to function as usual and will not be affected by the current political impasse.

       Kamel said civil servants at both the state and federal level remain committed to carrying out their duties and holding firmly to the Public Service pledge, especially in ensuring the success of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

       He also anticipates 90% of the adult population in the state to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by Friday (Oct 8).

       He said this after observing the Covid-19 vaccination programme for 90 Orang Asli teenagers from the Temuan tribe at the outreach programme organised by the Melaka branch of the Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) in Tebong, Alor Gajah.

       A total of 89.51% of the state's adult population had been fully vaccinated as of Thursday (Oct 7) morning.

       Meanwhile, a non-governmental organisation Indian Entrepreneurs Melaka (IEM) said it would continue to help locals impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

       IEM president Sivadasan Nair said apart from distributing food kits, his committee was helping the locals in terms of sourcing employment and business opportunities.

       “We are doing our best to render assistance to those in need.

       “Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, many households in the state had incurred losses in their businesses, lost their jobs and faced salary cuts,” he said Thursday.

       Sivadasan said IEM also distributed 100 food kits to the locals at a hotel here recently.

       Another NGO, Care United Johor Baru (CUJB) who is working closely with volunteers from Melaka’s Beisan United, said they would continue distributing food aid packages to those affected by the pandemic.

       Group spokesman Simon Buenaventura said that so far, RM15,000 worth of food packages have been distributed to 300 families in the state.
