GEORGE TOWN: The Pulau Tikus market here has reopened after a two-week closure since Sept 27 when a number of Covid-19 cases were detected there.
Following the reopening of the market on Monday (Oct 11), the market will resume operations on Tuesday (Oct 12) while its evening hawkers will resume business on Monday night.
State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said with the reopening of the market on Monday and the Tasek Gelugor market on the mainland on Sunday (Oct 10), all 33 public markets in Penang were now open.
"All our markets have now reopened but we urge all visitors to cooperate with us. Be responsible and follow the SOPs," he said.
He said up to now, some 18,715 traders and hawkers under both the Penang Island City Council and Seberang Prai City Council were vaccinated.
"That is 92.26% out of all the traders and hawkers under both city councils, a total of 20,284 people.
"For the balance of these numbers, we hope they can come forward to get jabbed soon for the good of their family and their community.
