Prince Charles said he would love to "help plant avenues" of trees around the country to commemorate those who lost their lives during the pandemic. He made the suggestion to the BBC during an interview in Prince George's Wood, a garden created by the Prince of Wales??in the gardens of the Balmoral estate. Prince Charles played a leading role in helping lift spirits during the pandemic despite having caught the virus himself in March 2020.

The royal put forward his proposals for the touching tribute as he discussed his vision for Britain over the coming decades: "There's a hell of a lot it could be like.

"I think we should be leading the way, particularly in terms of how we, as an island, could have an enormous impact as somewhere which is renowned its environmental quality, the way we farm and the types of products we produce and they're related to telling a story. About the place, the people.

"I've been wanting to help plant avenues which could commemorate all the people who've died during this pandemic.

"When you take what a difference urban trees make and yet the councils keep cutting them. Avenues would be another way and they're wonderful in the landscape."

BBC's climate editor Justin Rowlat told the Prince: "There are people who will be sceptical, and they'll say 'listen, the UK produces like 1 percent of world emissions, other countries aren't doing their bit.'"

"'Why on Earth should we make this huge effort and hobble our economies for something which ultimately would be useless."

"What would you say to them about why this is urgent and what is at stake for them, but also for the world."

Prince Charles replied: "It will a disaster. It will be catastrophic."

"It's already beginning to be catastrophic because nothing in nature can survive the stress that is creatic by these extremes of weather."

Justin then said: "Having discussed these issues, what would your ideal for a future Britain look like?"

Charles said: "I think we should be leading the way, particularly in terms of how we're an island."

"I've always felt that we could have an enormous impact as somewhere which is renowned for its environmental quality and the way we farm."

Charles also discussed his fears that leaders would "just talk," during the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow later this month.

The Prince of Wales has always played a key figure in the Royal Family's involvement in environmental matters.

He was recently been joined by his son, Prince William, who has played an integral role in recent years.

Last year, William launched the Earthshot Prize, which awards five £1 million pound prizes to individuals or organizations who are working to find solutions to the largest environmental problems plaguing the world.

The star-studded event will include performances by Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, and Shawn Mendes, and it was been reported that Sir David Attenborough will attend, to share the optimism he feels about environmental challenges.

The event will be filmed at Alexandra Palace in London and be broadcast on BBC One and globally on Discovery's Facebook page.
