Two people who had been living with a Zion woman have been charged with attempted murder after she was attacked and stabbed multiple times, police said Tuesday.
Rachel R. Hope, 46, and Tywain Rogers, 43, both of Zion, appeared in court Tuesday where they were ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail for the attack at the woman’s residence in the 2900 block of Gabriel Avenue.
The 59-year-old woman knew Hope and Rogers, and had recently allowed them to live on the second floor of her home, police said. She identified the pair as her attackers to police before she was transported to a hospital for emergency surgery, authorities said.
Zion police said they interviewed the woman again Monday after her surgery before they charged Hope and Rogers.
Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the attack.
Police said they were called to the residence about 1:40 a.m. Monday after receiving reports of a stabbing and found a woman in critical condition with multiple wounds. Police said they saw the two people fleeing into an alley, and they were detained after police said they had blood on their hands and clothing.
In addition to the attempted murder charges, Hope and Rogers are also charged with aggravated battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Both are scheduled to appear in court Nov. 2.
