PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s digital economy aspiration has been boosted with the launch of a new mobile app for airport rail transport service provider Express Rail Link (ERL), says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
He said the Covid-19 pandemic had created a greater emphasis on going digital and cashless.
“It is encouraging to see the use of technology to improve our lifestyle and travel experience, from super apps and e-wallets to e-commerce platforms,” Dr Wee said at the virtual launch of the KLIA Express App event yesterday.
The upgraded KLIA Ekspres mobile app allows customers to buy their train tickets more easily and offers better deals.
Dr Wee also launched the new EkspreSmiles loyalty programme, which allows customers to collect and redeem points for future purchases.
He also announced ERL’s Special RM1 Joyride event for the public once Klang Valley residents can travel freely again.
In a statement, ERL said that its cashless usage is currently at 55%, a jump of 16 points in the last four years.
Its CEO Noormah Mohd Noor said its initial target for cashless transactions in 2020 was slowed down by the pandemic but it hopes to hit this target early next year.
