TO generate enthusiasm with the reopening of schools, a primary schoolteacher in Langkawi painted her students’ tables, reported Harian Metro.
Nurul Farhana Ahmad Sukre, 32, said the tables were not in good condition because they had been left idle for a long time.
“Some teachers helped me tidy up the classroom and I painted the tables myself. It did not take me long to finish painting 30 tables.
“I hope the students will have more zeal and be more comfortable with studying in school after a long time away,” she said.
After her TikTok video went viral recently, the Bahasa Malaysia teacher said she did not expect the video to receive so much attention from netizens.
“I had opened the TikTok account because I had just moved to Langkawi. However, I did not expect the video of me painting the tables would get so much attention because the video was just for myself,” she said.
The 20-second video has received more than 200,000 views and 17,000 likes.
Most praised Nurul Farhana’s efforts in raising the spirits of her students.
> Several residents of Kampung Jawi in Nibong Tebal claimed that the waist-high flash floods that hit their village in August contained pig faeces, reported Kosmo!.
They claimed the upgrading work at a pig farm, which is believed to have been carried out without systematic planning, had affected the drainage system.
Resident P. Seeta, 32, said usually when flash floods hit, they would only be ankle-high but the one in August reached 1m and had flooded his house.
“I had to throw away all my food because it had pig faeces on it. The children’s clothes and sofa also had to be thrown away as they were so dirty and unhygienic,” he said.
Another resident, R. Goovintan, 45, claimed that upgrading work at the farm is believed to have affected the drainage system that caused the flash floods.
“Even the current drainage system is not properly managed, especially when the pig faeces gets stuck.
“We are already used to the smell, but we cannot take it when the floods occur,” he said.
Sahabat Alam Malaysia president Meenakshi Raman said about 300 residents had complained about the issue.
She said the authorities have not done anything despite the issue being raised many times before.
“The current drainage system is not able to hold a large capacity of water when it rains heavily because the area is not properly managed as it is full of bushes and is clogged with rubbish,” she said.
