MELAKA: Police seized an official car of Pengkalan Batu assemblyman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (pic) at a condominium in Jalan Tun Perak here on Tuesday (Oct 12).
Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said his men, acting on a police report by the State Secretary's Office on Oct 11, made the confiscation at 11.20am at the car park of the condominium.
"We have opened an investigation under Section 403 of the Penal Code and followed up by seizing the black Toyota Camry with the registration number MAL 3, a fuel card, as well other items belonging to the state government inside the car," he said on Wednesday (Oct 13).
Under Section 403, whoever dishonestly misappropriates, or converts to his own use, or causes any other person to dispose of, any property, is liable to between six months and five years in prison, with whipping and a fine, upon conviction.
DCP Abdul Majid said police have also summoned five individuals to assist in the ongoing investigation.
He said the instruction to surrender the official state government vehicles was issued by the State Secretary's Office on Oct 5.
Independent assemblyman Norhizam, along with Datuk Seri Idris Haron (Sungei Udang), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor) and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas) withdrew their support for the Barisan Nasional/Perikatan Nasional-led state government on Oct 4.
