Covid-19 Watch: 98.5% of new cases on Friday (Oct 15) are mild infections, says Health DG

       PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Covid-19 case figures remained below the 10,000 mark for the 13th consecutive day, as the country reported 7,420 new cases on Friday (Oct 15).

       Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this took the country’s cumulative total of Covid-19 cases to 2,377,033.

       Of the new cases, 98.5% (7,312) are asymptomatic (Category One) or mild (Category Two) infections.

       “A further 108 cases or 1.5% are Category Three, Four and Five infections,” Dr Noor Hisham said in his daily Covid-19 statement.

       There are 17 imported cases, involving 12 Malaysians and five foreigners.

       As for the 7,403 locally transmitted cases, 6,842 (92.4%) are Malaysians while 561 (7.6%) are foreign nationals.

       Malaysia also discharged 11,413 more Covid-19 patients, bringing the total recoveries to 2,251,758 or 94.7%.

       There are now 700 patients in intensive care units (ICU) nationwide, 635 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 infections while 65 are suspected cases.

       Some 364 patients are on ventilator support.

       Meanwhile, the Health Ministry also identified 13 new Covid-19 clusters, nine of which are workplace outbreaks involving 205 cases.

       Three others are community outbreaks (41 cases) and one is related to the education sector (11 cases).

       There are 721 active clusters.
