Service on the Red Line was getting back to normal after police were notified of a gunman at the Garfield “L” on the city’s South Side Friday night.
It happened about 6 p.m. but officers went to the station, 220 W. Garfield Blvd., and did not find a gunman, said Sgt. Rocco Alioto, a Chicago police spokesman.
Service on the Red line was resuming with residual delays and congestion following the police activity, which caused major delays earlier, according to an alert on the CTA’s website.
Some trains and platforms may be busier than usual as crews work to restore normal service, according to the site, which suggested that riders allow for extra travel time.
