PETALING JAYA: The country’s Covid-19 case figures remained below the five-figure mark for the thirteenth consecutive day as the country reported 7,420 new cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the cumulative total of cases to 2,377,033.

Of the 7,420 cases, 98.5% (7,312 cases) are mild and asymptomatic infections.

“Another 108 cases or 1.5% are Categories Three, Four and Five infections,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

There were 17 imported cases involving 12 Malaysians and five foreigners.

As for the 7,403 locally transmitted cases, 6,842 (92.4%) were Malaysians while 561 (7.6%) were foreigners.

Malaysia also discharged 11,413 more Covid-19 patients, bringing the total recoveries to 2,251,758 or 94.7%.

There are now 700 patients in intensive care units (ICU) nationwide, of which 635 are confirmed Covid-19 infections while 65 are suspected cases. Some 364 patients are on ventilator support.

Based on the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, there are 101,587 active cases in the country as of Thursday.

Active cases have been on a descending trend for the past month, dropping from a peak of 260,000 active cases at the end of August.

Of the 101,587 active cases, nearly 80% are mild and asymptomatic patients who are undergoing isolation at home.

Some 14.7% are at low-risk quarantine centres while 7.4% are hospitalised.

The number of patients in ICU are 0.7% out of all active cases.

The ICU bed utilisation rate across the country is at 61% while the country’s infectivity rate is at an Rt level of 0.88.

An Rt of less than one means the infection is not spreading.

The Health Ministry also identified 13 new Covid-19 clusters with nine of the clusters – involving 205 cases – related to the workplace.
